A very lovely vintage original 1920's Flapper era reseau tulle wedding veil with attached fitted cap and fancy off white or pale cream ruche silk ribbon headband, accented with a large silk ribbon floret and Lily of The Valley millinery flowers. Veil is further embellished with fine silk embroidered edge detail.
With a length of apx. 31 inches from the cap base to hem, I believe this veil would reach about fingertip length for most individuals, and it is quite full, with a considerable 51 inch sweep at bottom edge.
This bridal veil is in extremely nice vintage estate condition. It is slightly off white in color, (see close ups of ribbon for best color) however I believe it would lighten somewhat with a gentle soak if a whiter shade was preferred.
The tulle is quite soft, with a slight body. Due to various early treatment methods I am not sure if the tulle is silk or some other natural fiber, however since the head band, ribbons and embroidered detail are all silk I believe it likely that the tulle is, also. Other than the one tiny pull/snag show in the last image, the tulle netting is in exceptionally nice condition, free of stains, picks, tears, etc.
A silk ribbon floret is attached to one side of the headband. I am not sure if there were originally two, however it seems possible, as where the other would have been attached there are a few loose threads in the satin ribbon band; this does not affect the integrity of the band or veil, it is simply an aesthetic matter whether or not to re-
stitch the few loosened threads, or cover with another similar silk ribbon floret.
The ribbon floret is in very nice condition, however it could use a stitch or two to attach it more securely to the band and both ribbon and flowers could use a steam and/or press to fluff and revive. There is a small, very pale discoloration on the underside of one ribbon end. This would likely disappear with a soak, or just snip this end off. If perfection is required period ribbon is readily available for replacement.
The silk headband is very nice, appearing strong and retaining amazingly good stretch.
The silk embroidered detail, which begins at the cap base and encircles/edges the entire veil, is in extremely nice condition. I see no snags, breaks or problems.
This original vintage 1920s bridal veil was obviously treasured and well cared for, as it remains in very nice, extremely useable condition. Offered as found. Certain to enhance any period ensemble or trousseau collection.
