Material: Ostrich Feathers & Bakelite/Celluloid
Size: Height ~ 21 inches, Width ~ 18 inches
Quantity: 1
This elegant vintage evening, party or opera fan dates from the later Edwardian period,
to the 1920's Flapper era.
Rich mauve pink ostrich feathers, with variegated blue gray tips are attached to
a wonderful butterscotch yellow monture, secured by a jeweled rivet.
All six of the monture sticks, as well as the two guards and the loop are formed
of the opaque butterscotch material that we believe to be Bakelite.
The fan is in very nice vintage estate condition, with no noted breaks to feathers,
or chips, breaks, cracks, etc., to monture. It appears to be all original, opening
and closing properly, with appropriate space between the sticks and guards. We do
see a small dark speck (apx. 1/4 inch) on the innermost feather, very near the tip,
that we have not tried to clean as it is not readily apparent and hidden by all the
other feathers, but believe it would likely lighten/disappear with proper spot treatment.
As mentioned above we do believe that the monture is Bakelite as the hot water test
produced an immediate, very strong odor. We also plan to do the 409 test, however
I am out of this product at the moment, so will add those test results here as soon
as possible.
A very elegant period ladies formal hand fan, featuring harder to find pink feathers.
