This is an original old Edwardian - 1920's ribbon work bag. Shown here stuffed with
tissue for our pictures.
Judging by the size my guess is that it was intended as a
vanity or boudoir bag, likely for lingerie, stockings, hankies, gloves, etc., however
I do not believe it was ever used.
It is constructed of five different colors of satin ribbon, 2 shades of yellow, two
pink and one green, all ruched by hand and gathered together at the bottom , to form
a rather rounded bag. Seam at top of bag holds a pink silk ribbon draw closure and
appears to be machine sewn. Unlined. Bottom of bag is decorated with gold, black
and pink millinery stamin passementerie trim..
It is in excellent overall condition, free of stains, rips, tears, holes or other
problems. Because the bag is unlined there are some threads from minor fraying
of ribbon edges inside. Decorative trim at bag bottom is somewhat flattened from
years of storage, but could be fluffed up again with a little attention.
Overall an exceptionally nice and hard to find original Edwardian - 20’s era ribbonwork
bag.
