This Volupte compact is shown ion page 35 of The Collector's Encyclopedia of Compacts,
Carryalls and Face Powder Boxes, Volume 2, by Laura Mueller. A 1939 Vogue advertisement
in the book pictures this compact, described as;
The Beau Brummel Snuff Box Compact ~ A compact original inspired by the dandy's snuff
box...to be used with a graceful flourish! Scalloped oval of fine enamel and golden
finish metal...with wistful pastel floral motif on black or white, or chaste monotones.
Deep loose powder well, sumptuous oval puff.
This is a really substantial, well made compact. It appears to be solid brass and
this particular example must be the chaste monotone style referred to in the ad,
because it just soft white enamel, with no floral decals.
Original sifter and powder puff are present, as well as a little powder, too!
Compact reverse is lightly monogrammed: Kay 1941.
This interesting ladies vanity boudoir article is in very nice vintage estate condition.
The self framed mirror remains very clear. The hinge operates well and compact
snaps securely closed. There are a few scratches to the top, but they are very small
and light. The original puff looks quite good, but could likely be completely refreshed
with a gentle soak.
A very nice and harder to find early Volupte snuff box inspired compact.
