Vintage metallic embroidered French handbags are becoming quite hard to find, especially in good condition like this fine early example.
This particular purse, dating to the Edwardian era, features a floral and shamrock motif ormolu frame, with a nice original round link chain handle. Multiple colors of metallic thread, including red, green, silver, gold, copper and bronze, were meticulously hand stitched in a floral motif to form the purse body, which features a similar design on both sides. Numerous types of stitches were used to create the design, including satin and French knots, to name a few.
Interior is lined in a pretty peach moire fabric, with one pleated side pocket. Original

tag remains affixed inside.
We are pleased to report that this bag is in extremely nice vintage estate condition. Frame hinges and clasp operate smoothly and align well, with secure closure. Stitching on bag exterior appears to be completely intact, with no noted wear to corners and near the hinges as is commonly found on this type of embroidered bag,. Color on both sides of the bag remains amazingly vibrant and appears to be very close to original with no fading and little or no oxidation. Interior lining shows a couple of very small speckles, which seem to be from rubbing on the high points of the embroidery rather than stains and some similar slight wear near top edge, from rubbing on frame. The lining features a nice corded edging, where it attaches to frame, which is a detail usually found on just the higher end, very well made old handbags. Please see images below. Lining and exterior bag body both remain securely attached to frame. Really the only comment we can make is that the little pull, which would have attached to small loop on exterior purse frame has gone missing sometime over the years. Purse still opens fine without it and replacements are available if desired.
A very nice vintage Edwardian harder to find embroidered metallic handbag.
