This excellent condition vintage steel beaded handbag purse dates to the 1930's. It still retains the original tag from French maker Langlois and Jargeais, located at 4 Rue Vaucanson, Paris, France.
This is one of the more rare and harder to find brightly colored pattern bags, decorated in a very attractive stylized paisley and flame motif that incorporates rich red, pink, yellow and green beads on a tonal ground of metallic gold, bronze and silver, with matching beaded handle. The beads are an interesting mix of faceted, barrel and traditional round shapes.
Due to the metallic and iridescent nature of the beads these colors were extremely difficult to photograph, with the background shades appearing darker than actual. Hopefully interested parties will be at least somewhat familiar with old French steel beaded bags, especially these harder to find brightly colored examples and understand that our images really do not show how the beads lighten, sparkle and glow when exposed to any kind of movement and/or light source.
The frame of this purse appears to be brass and it has been etched in an aesthetic design to compliment the naturalistic floral motif that features hand set fancy little jewels we believe to be marcasites, or similar.
Interior of the bag is lined in a wonderful rich, shimmery cream satin, with a side pocket.
This bag is in exceptionally nice vintage estate condition. Interior lining is very clean and nice. We see no stains or spots and no rips, tears, snags or other damage. Lining, as well as bag exterior, remains firmly attached to frame. The frame hinges and clasp align well and operate perfectly. Using a jewelers loupe we discovered that there are three tiny jewels missing from frame and one that appears to be broken. This is really not detectable without magnification, however marcasites are available through bead suppliers and easily replaced if buyer requires absolute perfection. The exterior of this handbag is also extremely nice. We see no stains, no missing beads and no noted damage. Even the beaded handle appears intact. The colors in the pattern design remain bright and vibrant. No apologies necessary here.
A rather rare and hard to find brightly colored, beautifully patterned vintage Art Deco era French handbag. If you like exceptionally nice condition antique and vintage bags you should enjoy this bag.
