This fine old coin or change purse was made in France, c. 1915 - 1925.
The fabric is a wonderful metallic lame brocade, in an interesting Art Deco motif
incorporating a number of colors, including coral, blue and green, with silver and
copper metallic, on an iridescent silvery ground. Please note that the colors appear
somewhat subdued in our images, when they are in fact quite vibrant, especially the
coral and blue. The interior of purse is a lovely white satin. Frame is gold and
copper tones.
Original tag remains inside, reading; Made In France.
This purse is in excellent vintage estate condition and actually appears to be unused.
The interior is perfectly clean and white, with no holes, wear, or stains and lining
remains securely attached to frame. Exterior is also very nice and free of stains,
holes, etc. It is securely attached to frame as well. Hinges and kiss style snap
closure operate perfectly, without any issues. Frame closes nicely, with perfect
alignment. The only thing noted is the copper color on the frame, most significant
on the kiss closure. I am not sure if the purse was originally made with the two
tone gold/copper finish, or if the gold has worn a little during years of storage
to reveal copper underneath. Really a very minor cosmetic issue and not unattractive,
especially with the copper elements in purse body.
Overall a very nice vintage coin purse bag. It is rather unusual to find diminutive
little handbags in metallic French brocades and especially nice to find one in such
excellent condition.
