Per the Rainwater book; Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers, Hotchkiss
and Schreuder worked together in New York from c. 1850 ~1873, producing this Coin
silver Homeric Medallion pattern featuring Dionysus, apx. c. 1863.
Available records indicate this particular piece is an All Silver Fish Knife. It
is quite large, measuring apx. 6 & 7/8 inches. Weight is 1.21 Troy ounces.
There is a single letter monogram on reverse; M.
In addition to the makers mark, there are some additional partially visible letters
that may be COIN, double struck.
This knife is in very good overall estate condition, with no dings, dents, nicks
or repairs. Commensurate with age the pattern does show some expected smoothing
to the finest detail.
Early Medallion patterns are quite collectable and becoming harder to find.
