A very nice antique Victorian enamel buckle bracelet, c. 1870 ~ 1880.
This is a round bangle and it opens up completely, so it is easy to slip it on the
wrist and then buckle it up. The measurement given above is the size when the bracelet
is latched at the largest notch; there are also two smaller notches if a smaller
size is required.
The bracelet is hallmarked as 12K gold filled, however it really does look like a
high karat gold. The fancy etched gold buckle, against the beautiful black enameling,
accented with the fancy gold leaf and vine pattern is really quite striking.
This bracelet is in extremely nice estate condition. The gold work is all exceptionally
nice; we really do not see any wear at all to the gold buckle, bracelet edges, or
interior, etc. The enamel is also very nice, with only a couple of tiny, tiny flecks
and one more substantial bump where it appears the enamel was repaired; no gold shows
through, the enamel just appears slightly less glossy in a small 1/4 inch area.
Overall an extremely nice antique Victorian buckle bracelet, which may have been
used as mourning jewelry.
