This is a hard to find old cameo bracelet, c. 1920's, featuring eight individual
gold framed cameos.
The background and back of each cameo is pale pink, however this did not show well
in the pictures. Each profile is white and very finely detailed. Please see the
close up images.
After examining the cameos with a loupe, then comparing the characteristics and the
way light diffuses through each, to shell cameos, I believe this to be Angelskin
coral, rather than Queen Conch Shell.
Seven of the cameos are gold framed, with open backs. The eighth cameo has a solid
gold back, which securely holds the clasp when bracelet is closed.
I am not positive, but due to some of the figures I immediately recognize in the
bracelet, such as Diana, Mercury, and Zeus, I believe it possible that this may have
originally been a seven day of the week bracelet and matching pendant, that at some
point years ago was combined into one, which extended the bracelet into a very wearable
size; 6 & 3/8 closed. Open: 6 & 11/16.
The bracelet is not hallmarked, but tested 14 karat gold. This result was confirmed
in a second independent jeweler test. The gold shows a slightly rosy tone.
The bracelet is in overall extremely nice condition. Seven of the cameos are completely
free of chips, cracks, breaks, etc. The eighth cameo, the one with the solid gold
back, does show a line near the very inside edge. This appears to be old and does
not affect the integrity of the cameo at all, because it is securely and firmly encased
in a bezel mount, with a solid back. Aesthetically this tiny line is very hard to
detect; I did not in fact even see it until viewed under a magnifying glass. Please
see last close up image, right column. The only other noted item is the possibility
if a few more modern chain links (1950's?) added between first cameo and female part
of clasp. Certainly easily replaceable if desired.
True old cameo bracelets are definitely becoming harder to find, and this is a very
nice, finely detailed, early example.
