Hallmark: 14K & Makers mark
Size: Length: 1 & 1/4 inches, Width: 15/16
Quantity: 1
A very nice antique cameo pendant mounted in 14k gold, c. late Victorian ~ Edwardian,
depicting a mythological Bacchante maiden, follower of Bacchus, ( Greek name Dionysus
) the god of wine and fertility.
The background and back of the cameo is pale pink. The maiden's finely executed,
high relief profile is white. Her elaborately styled hair is adored with a head
band and grape leaves.
This is a fairly large pendant; 1 & 1/4 inches, without the bale. The gold has a
slight rosy tone to it. Hallmarked 14 Karat, with unknown makers mark shaped something
like a star burst.
After examining the cameo with a loupe, then comparing the characteristics and the
way light diffuses through it to shell cameos, I believe this is Angelskin coral,
rather than Queen Conch Shell.
The cameo is in excellent condition. We see no chips, cracks, breaks or problems
of any kind with the cameo or gold mounting.
A very nice quality older cameo pendant, with fine detail, set in 14 k gold.
